What Sparkle Valley is Really About?

Why does this story exist?

Because of what we leave behind when we grow up.

Wonder and imagination.

So here’s an idea for a story: why not make imagination a real world?   Ok. And call it Sparkle Valley. That’s what I did.

It’s Emily’s world, and everything about it—the characters, the places, the rivers, the mountains, the feelings, and meaning itself are all shaped by her. But as she gets older that world (her imagination) starts to change, to fade. And that’s it. That’s Sparkle valley in a nutshell.

What about the characters?

Emily is at the center at all. That is her imagination played out through Abigail, who animates the story.

Abigail is Emily’s Blue Flower, who fights and tries to keep Sparkle Valley alive.

Ivana is pride.

And Grandma Doris is the grandmother who every child deserves. She represents the memories that carry imagination forward.

These characters (and so many more) are what we leave behind when we grow up.

But do we really have to?

And not for nostalgia or escape. So that’s what Sparkle Valley is really about. It’s about choosing imagination.
