Inzos
Inzos are scary winged creatures with sharp claws that move like thick, black smoke. They can sense fear, and they will try to put out the inner spark of anyone they come across. The first time that Emily encountered them was in her dreams, when they chased her through a dark forest. But then she learned something very important, that they are only as powerful as you let them be.
Inzos pop up often in the series as reminders of the power of fear, and how it grows stronger when we run from it. Because here's the secret, these creatures are not truly bad. They can be controlled if you believe in yourself. Learning to face these creatures is a big part of Emily's growing up.

IT (The Beast)
IT is a mysterious force hiding under Sparkle Valley that represents the scary side of growing up. It's not something you can see, but when it shows up, there's thick green mist and tremors and it sounds like 1000 hissing snakes. It works like a computer virus, using characters in Sparkle Valley to do its bidding and defeat Abigail. Its ultimate (and diabolical) goal is to convince Emily that imagination no longer matters.

The Cane
The Cane contains a magical sapphire that holds the essence of Frank Needlenose and is a powerful object in Sparkle Valley. Both the Cane and the Locket come from Emily's imagination and while both are magical, they play different roles. The Cane is about control, getting what you want. It has the power to impose your will on others. But the locket is about love, connecting. It has the power to change hearts.
The Powder of Life
The Powder of Life is a substance that has the power to make anything real. It's kept in a special orange sachet and was created by the Needlenose twins in Sparkle Valley. But the secret recipe was lost in a fire and that made it one of a kind. The Powder of Life allows Abigail to control her future and who she wants to be.

The Locket
The Locket is a magical gift that Emily gave to Abigail on their birthday. It's packed with the power of imagination, especially the power of sisterly love that exists between Abigail and Emily. And that's exactly why the Beast wants to destroy the locket. But Abigail will do whatever she can to protect her locket and what it stands for.
The Journal
When Doris was a young girl, she was fascinated with Frank Needlenose and his world of magic. He gave her a special journal to write down all her adventures in Sparkle Valley. And Doris took this job seriously. She filled it with all of her discoveries about the Beast, the “thin places,” and her adventures with the twins. In Book 2, Emily inherits the journal, and Abigail takes it back to the valley. And that's when something incredible happens: the journal comes to life and shows Abigail the hidden history of Sparkle Valley. And with this knowledge, Abigail learns just how important Doris was in protecting Sparkle Valley from the Beast.
Blue Flowers (& Butterflies)
The Blue Flower, represented by Abigail, stands for goodness and that special “inner spark” that all children have. The Beast wants to put out the spark, but you can see it shine throughout the story. It’s there in the forget-me-nots in the Magic Garden, or the beautiful butterfly that connects Abigail with Grandma Doris. When these flowers are powered by imagination, they become powerful glowing butterflies that protect Sparkle Valley (Emily's inner spark) from darkness.
